After 5 years of preparation, the new laws come into force in most states of Australia on 1st of January, 2017
This matter is covered under the WHS Safety Regulations in all States.
Breaches will be handled in the same manner as for other WHS and Safety matters.
In simple terms, for participating States, all chemicals in the workplace will be labelled the same way anywhere in the world.
The rules are much more strict than our current rules so there has been a substantial rework of Labelling, SDSs and some formulas.
Are you ready?
You need to be talking to your supplier about getting access to GHS Compliant Safety Data Sheets “SDSs” and be satisfied that your Cleaning Products will have GHS Compliant Labels on the chemicals you purchase from the 1st of January.
Your next compliance audit will most likely be when non-compliance is discovered.
Then it will be your problem.
